From Seoul to Barcelona, Lisbon to London – the Meet Vincent is bringing Van Gogh’s story to cultural destinations around the world
As an international touring exhibition, the multiple award-winning blockbuster Meet Vincent van Gogh Experience fulfills the Van Gogh Museum’s mission of sharing Vincent van Gogh’s unique life story with people around the world, to enrich and inspire them. In 2019, Meet Vincent van Gogh delighted audiences across Europe and Asia with its playfulness, interactivity and captivating storytelling.
Outstanding Success in 2019
“2019 has been an exceptional year for Van Gogh Museum Experiential Content,” says Arnold van de Water, General Manager of the Meet Vincent van Gogh Experience. “The Experience’s innovative combination of interactives, cultural storytelling, edutainment and retail introduces the Van Gogh Museum’s world-leading collection and research on this beloved artist to new target audiences around the world. Meet Vincent’s success is defined by a seal of quality and authority not only from the iconic Van Gogh Museum, but also by our wider team of cutting-edge international suppliers, hosts and support staff.”
Meet Vincent van Gogh Europe’s premiere
Meet Vincent van Gogh was on display in both Barcelona and Seoul earlier this year. The European launch of Meet Vincent van Gogh in Barcelona took place from April to July. Located in the cultural heart of the city- superyacht harbor, Port Vell – Meet Vincent attracted locals eager to know more about Van Gogh’s inspiring life story and many of the tourists who travel to Barcelona for the city’s vibrant cultural scene. The Experience closed its doors with over 161.000 visitors, after an additional one-month extension due to popular demand.

“The paintings of the artist are more alive than ever, his thoughts and inspirations narrated by himself and his life projected before your eyes.”
– La Mono Magazine, 7 February 2019

Meet Vincent van Gogh Barcelona was promoted by ProActiv: Live Entertainment & Brand Events, Spain’s leading entertainment promoter with over 30 years of experience bringing the world’s favorite shows to Barcelona and Madrid. ProActiv’s strong knowledge of the local market ensured that Meet Vincent van Gogh was highly visible throughout the city, creating a sense of excitement around the only official Van Gogh experience in Spain. In addition, the support of the Dutch Embassy in Madrid and Netherlands Business Support Office in Barcelona enabled Meet Vincent van Gogh to secure the prime venue location of Port Vell and celebrate Van Gogh as the perfect symbol of Dutch culture and creativity.

Meet Vincent van Gogh in Seoul
While on display in Barcelona, Meet Vincent van Gogh had its second Asian tour stop at Seoul’s Woojung Arts Center in mid-April 2019. Speaking to the success of Meet Vincent van Gogh in Korea, Yong K. Kim, CEO of the Experience’s local partner, MAST Media & Entertainment, states, “Meet Vincent van Gogh is a completely multisensory experience that people can touch, look at and hear- altogether a new paradigm. The fact that people can take selfies freely throughout the exhibit led the Experience to become a hotspot for social media savvy youngsters, as well as families and students.”

“It awakened my artistic senses!”

In addition to Meet Vincent van Gogh, the Van Gogh Museum has developed a range of experiential concepts perfectly suited to retailtainment opportunities and cultural exhibition spaces. For example, the Van Gogh Museum Edition Pop-Up – a unique retailtainment concept combining an introduction to the art and life of Van Gogh with a fully-stocked Van Gogh Museum merchandise store – has been touring the United States’ premiere retail destinations since late 2018.

Looking Ahead
Following the international success of Meet Vincent van Gogh in 2019, the nearby future is already off to a strong start with tour stops confirmed in two of Europe’s most dynamic cultural capitals- London and Lisbon.
Meet Vincent van Gogh Lisbon will be on display from February 28, 2020 and is produced in collaboration with UAU Produtora. UAU excels in bringing a range of international cultural events to Portugal and has over 30 years of experience ‘producing emotions.’ Once again, the Experience has secured a venue deep in its host city’s historic and cultural quarter – Belém.
